Smart Futures Lab Hosts 3rd Annual Demo Day Showcasing Smart City Innovation

DENVER, CO — August 22, 2025 — Prominent technology entrepreneurs from Colorado and surrounding regions will present real-world smart-city solutions to municipal leaders and industry experts at this year's Smart Future Lab Demo Day. These New Majority founders have completed seven months in the Lab's complimentary accelerator program and are prepared to unveil their innovations.

This year's Demo Day emphasizes technology addressing urban challenges—including infrastructure, energy management, transportation, and public safety. Participants will demonstrate their solutions to city agencies, municipalities, and government representatives seeking feedback, pilot opportunities, and collaborative partnerships.

Operating from the University of Colorado Denver College of Engineering, Design, and Computing, the Smart Futures Lab provides mentorship, workspace, and expert guidance at no cost to underrepresented entrepreneurs. Created through collaboration with the Colorado Smart Cities Alliance and Innosphere Ventures, the program received $2 million in funding from the US Economic Development Administration to support civic innovation startups.

According to a program representative, "Program members have been gearing up for Demo Day through hands-on mentorship, business planning workshops, and roundtable discussions led by industry experts."

In two years, Smart Futures Lab has supported 29 companies that secured $14.5 million in combined investment and revenue while launching 21 pilot opportunities with 40+ public-sector partners. This year's cohort includes CU Boulder students, Navy Veterans, and developers of hydrogen-powered electric vehicle charging technology, alongside FLOX, a Swedish wildlife deterrent company.
